Furygan and D3O release the new Spectre Range
Deemed the most advanced protection technology to date, developed exclusively by Furygan MotionLab and D3O.

D3O are pioneers in impact protection and have released some of the most lightweight, strong protection on the market. So why is the release of Spectre so important?
D3O are famous for many things, but one of their biggest successes within the UK market is their Ghost Armour.
D3O Ghost was made to prove that you can be just as protected, as well as being equally comfortable. Gone are the days where you’re walking like a storm trooper to feel safe in motorcycle gear. With their patented technology you’re protected by Ghost with the non-newtonian based material – just approximately 11mm thick.
This option has been a huge success within UK dealerships.
Customers often swap out their armour upon purchasing another jacket/trousers. They do this for the flexibility and comfort benefits. Well-known motorcycle brands have now adopted this success and joined forces with the brand. These include Richa, Rukka, Triumph and new for 2026 is RST. However, Furygan were first. As such, they are the only motorcycle clothing brand to now have their own custom D3O armour product.
The Furygan X D3O relationship started 15 years ago. It is already tried and tested within the motorcycle world. It has significant dominance in the Isle of Man TT with Michael Dunlop and his astounding TT success. We were kindly invited back in January for a tour of the lab. We spoke with Richard Harfoot, D3O’s Motorsport Manager.
Many motorcyclists, born and raised in the ‘storm trooper’ motorcycle armour era, may have some hesitation. They might question an armour that is simply so thin. They might question how this will protect them should the worst happen. We spoke about why TT riders choose D3O protection. I often say to people ‘if it’s good enough for Michael Dunlop it’s good enough for me!’ However, in terms of actual facts, Richard says this:
“There are mental attributes associated with knowing something works and being confident in something with proof. Michael Dunlop knows more than most, just the amount of risk that road racing endures. Ultimately, if you’re going to have a catastrophic accident, in some tragic circumstances there just isn’t going to be any one thing that could make a difference. But we’re confident that our riders are protected by our armour enough that depending on the crash could just brush themselves off ahead of the next session/race.“
The new Spectre range started its life at the D3O lab in Croydon.
Here they’re able to test the early stages of the armour in-house before sending it off. It’s produced at their second operation location in Asia. Being able to run all forms of research and development in-house gives them a unique opportunity. They can run countless tests, which are above industry standard. So by the time the product goes into mass production they already know how it performs. This includes under heat and weather testing, impact drop machines and more.
The unique design of the Spectre was inspired by the Ghost D3O products. These already outperform the competitor market. It’s a product that is a key upsell in all motorcycle dealerships and for great reason. Furygan wanted the same lightweight experience, comfort with maximum protection. The Spectre, to our eye, almost has a double-layered appearance in the hexagonal and circular imprint. The L2 rated armour is just 9.5mm thick, dubbed the lightest and most breathable ever made. Each piece of armour is pre-shaped for a secure fit for all. It features in a wide range of the 2026 Furygan collection. This includes some awesome new female pieces coming to market.
At the lab in Croydon, they demonstrate the impact D3O has on various materials, even liquid.
We’re testing some items on the new Furygan 2026 line. We can’t wait to let you know how they stand up. I will say confidently the new collection features something for every rider. Whether it’s your first bike and you need something kind to the wallet without compromising protection. Or you’re a seasoned vet and frequent everything from track days to touring. They have massively increased their range of AA rated jackets. A few A rated ones are still in the collection for where they’re required. The Ashton is perfect if you’re commuting on a Vespa or similar. They have massively increased their presence in the AA rated jacket sector.
I believe with the 2026 Furygan collection they have really pinpointed what the market needs.
They understand that there is a larger market of younger riders coming in. Many are commuting on a bike only to pass the time until their driving licence. From my experience in the dealer, this is usually the rider who doesn’t want to look like they’re wearing motorcycle protection. Despite the unfortunate lack of CBT’s being undertaken in 2025 from the MCIA data, the young riders who are coming through do not always intend to stay long term on 2-wheels. This is where Spectre shines. From the outside looking in you’re just a rider wearing a fashionable jacket. Unbeknown to everyone else, you’re packed with L2 armour. It is in potentially an AA/AAA rated jacket.
There’s a lot to be said about the buying process of motorcycle gear and armour in the UK.
Some dealerships are totally ready to sell. However, they aren’t so keen to educate. This is where I want us to come in, to tell you what’s good. Also, what you should really be looking out for when spending your hard-earned dosh.
