DIOGO MOREIRA IS THE 2025 MOTO2 WORLD CHAMPION AS IZAN GUEVARA TAKES HIS DEBUT WIN AT VALENCIA

This weekend at Valencia the 2025 Powered by Triumph Moto2™ World Championship reached its grand finale. Diogo Moreira entered the weekend leading the overall standings by 24 points ahead of title rival Manuel Gonzalez.
For the majority of the season it had been Gonzalez leading the title charge.
After the 16th round at Misano, he was 39 points clear in front. However, with Gonzalez facing some challenges in the rounds to follow, Moreira started to make his move. Consequently, the battle for the title reignited with Moreira taking the lead last time out at Portimão.
Sunday’s 22-lap race saw Gonzalez ahead of Moreira on the grid in fifth place. Meanwhile, Moreira was just a row behind in ninth. Knowing what he had to do, and with a healthy point advantage, Moreira delivered a careful and precise race throughout. At the same time, Gonzalez tried his hardest to defend and fight for the championship.
However, disaster struck for Gonzalez, who with just five laps remaining pulled into the garage as he struggled with rear grip.
Although rejoining the race, he’d dropped out of the points. Moreira had done enough to be crowned the 2025 Moto2 World Champion.
Meanwhile during the race it was Izan Guevara who put in a superb performance. Starting from second place, the BLU CRU Pramac rider charged to the lead on the opening lap and never looked back. Extracting the most out of his Triumph 765cc triple engine, as seen on the Street Triple 765 RS, Guevara controlled the race. He defended his position from Dani Holgado who was hot on his heels in the closing stages.
Crossing the line +0.717s ahead of Holgado, Guevara took his debut Moto2 win.
He became the sixth winner of the super-competitive series this year. Completing the podium in third place and celebrating his first-ever Moto2 podium was rookie Iván Ortolá. He came through the pack from 11th on the grid.
Taking the chequered flag in fourth place was Collin Veijer, with Filip Salač fifth. It was his first top 10 since Hungary, and Albert Arenas was sixth. For Brit Jake Dixon, this weekend marked the last race of his Moto2 career as he moves to the World Superbike Championship next season. He crossed the line seventh, and was fifth in the overall standings.
Wrapping up the top 10, Senna Agius was eighth, Celestino Vietti ninth, and tenth was Tony Arbolino.
The 2025 season has seen six different race winners, with 17 new lap records. It also had 19 new all-time lap records in the Triumph-powered class.
With the 2025 season now wrapped up, all eyes will be on 2026. The Moto2 World Championship will return on 27 February – 1 March at Thailand’s Chang International Circuit.
