Moto2™ Pre-Race Briefing: Round 4, GP of Qatar, Lusail International Circuit, 11 – 13 April 2025
Upcoming race – Grand Prix of Qatar
- Moto2: The GP of Qatar is the only night race on the calendar. The Lusail International Circuit is 5.38km long with 10 right and 6 left corners and a longest straight of 1068m. Moto2 teams prepare meticulously for this grand event.
- In 2024 Aron Canet was on pole and got a new all-time lap record of 1m 56.788. He also set the fastest lap of the race but Sam Lowes still holds the race lap record from 2023 with a 1m 57.366. Alonso Lopez took the win for his best result of the 2024 Moto2 season.
- In 2024, the average number of gear changes for a rider in the top 5 was 35 changes per lap and the average for a rider in the top 15 Moto2 riders was 26 changes per lap.
- In 2024, the average lap speed in Moto2 was 161.5 km/h and the top speed recorded was 298.3 km/h.

“Jake is certainly on a roll right now, delivering another flawless weekend. It was also great to see Tony and Alonso back on the podium. Having won the Qatar GP last year, Alonso will be aiming for a repeat performance, especially with confidence high after this podium.
With a wet race in COTA, the lap record didn’t fall, but Manuel once again set a new all-time lap record—his third in as many races this season. Unfortunately, his tyre gamble didn’t pay off, so he couldn’t convert his speed into a race result this time. But I’m sure he’ll be back fighting this weekend. COTA also demonstrated the gearbox improvements made at the start of the year with riders commenting positively on the benefits in the first gear corners.
Now, we head to the night race in Qatar at the fast and flowing Lusail International Circuit, where riders spend the most time at full throttle—50.95 seconds per lap at 100%. The second highest is the GP of Austria, with 46.45 seconds per lap at full throttle.”

- Winner: 7 points – Jake Dixon won the fan vote once again for another flawless Moto2 weekend.
- Second: 6 points – Alonso Lopez was second for cutting through the pack in tricky conditions for his first podium of the year in Moto2.
- Third: 5 points – Tony Arbolino took the remaining points for his first podium of the season in Moto2, once again showcasing his prowess in wet conditions.
