Seb Kustom’s retro racer
Brittany-based Sebastien Vernaison had a dream to create his own custom bikes under the Seb Kustom banner. He has no set style and, in the past, we’ve seen him create so really cool choppers, bobbers and café racers from mainly classic bikes. But with this latest build he’s created a retro racer from a 2007 600cc Honda Hornet.
Seb said: “I chose this base bike because it already came with a stock inverted fork, plus I wanted to test a fuel-injected bike to reduce the hassles of trying to adjust worn carbs.

The donor bike wasn’t pretty. The previous owner used a bulky GSX-R seat and had tried unsuccessfully to create a new exhaust system. “The state of the bike wasn’t a big deal because I was considering completely rebuilding it a couple of years ago. At that time, I tried a mix of Bratstyle and café racer and while it was a lot prettier than when I first bought the bike, it was too simplistic compared to what I do now so, on a whim, I decided to restyle it and try to introduce a lot more character into the bike.
My aim with the rebuild, was to create two different options for the bike. One was the retro racer with half-fairing and single seat, the other was a naked bike, without the fairing but with a Bratstyle bench seat. There was a different exhaust muffler to suit each version and my aim was to be able to make the switch in minutes so I had to think carefully about how things were mounted.
“The Poly26 front fairing has been modified to install the headlight, and the seat cover has been widened and adapted to the shape of the saddle. The saddle was custom made by Atout Sellerie from a saddle bottom that I formed following the new buck that I made. It takes a brake light, two Kellermann lights 3/ 1 are fixed under the loop to ensure legal lighting. At the front, a ventilated LED bulb was installed along with Kellermann indicators.

“I fitted stainless Arrow exhaust headers and there are two attachments for the mufflers, a French-made Devil for the Brat version, and a Danmoto carbon pipe, customized by West Welding 29 for the ‘’Retro Racer version. A DNA air filter is installed in the air box.”
