SENNA AGIUS WINS RED FLAGGED AMERICAN GRAND PRIX
Senna Agius has claimed a hard-fought victory in the American Grand Prix today. He came out on top in a head-to-head Triumph Street Triple 765 RS-powered battle with Celestino Vietti. This took place in the third round of the Moto2™ World Championship.
The Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas got off to a frantic start. An incident on the opening lap brought out the red flag. As a result, there was a short 10-lap dash around the Horsepower Rodeo.
Getting the restarted race underway, it was Alonso Lopez who burst into the lead. He pipped Barry Baltus and Vietti to the lead on the run into turn one. However, from there it was all eyes on Agius. He muscled his way through to the podium fight from fifth on the grid. By lap eight, the number 81 rider was into the lead.
Vietti was quick to fight back aboard his Triumph-powered Speed UP RS machine. However, Agius didn’t give in. He battled back into the lead at Turn 3 just a lap later. From there, the Intact GP rider didn’t look back. He crossed the line for his second Moto2 race victory. This was an emotional win for the team.
Vietti crossed the line second, with Izan Guevara rounding out the Austin podium. Meanwhile, Aspar’s David Alonso fended off a chasing Manuel Gonzalez to secure fourth. He had to fight his way through from 17th on the grid.
Agius’ victory sees him move into sixth in the overall standings. His teammate Gonzalez is still leading the way by 3.5 points over Guevara.
The Moto2 World Championship will now enjoy a larger break than planned. This is in light of the postponed Qatar Grand Prix. The series returns to action in Jerez for the Spanish Grand Prix on 24-26 April.

1. Senna Agius – For taking the win after coming through the pack from fifth place. He came out on top after an epic scrap with Celestino Vietti
2. David Alonso – Quickest across the weekend and celebrated his maiden Pole position. Despite being disqualified afterwards and having to start the race from 17th, he came home in a fantastic fourth
3. Joe Roberts – Fighting back at his home race to claim a top ten finish after being involved in an opening lap crash
